Couture Skirt - Starts 27th March 2018 FULLY BOOKED

Couture sewing takes time and patience.  Much of the construction is done by hand often because the fabrics are tricky and there could be complicated design details. Since spending time with Claire Shaeffer, who is an internationally respected author, lecuturer and columnist and has a collection of over 2000 couture garments many of which are Chanel,  I have been inspired to do more couture sewing and share some of these skills.

If you can sew, you can sew Couture

Taking inspiration from the skirts that were often made to go with the classic cardigan jacket you will create a beautiful couture garment over 3 days.  The skirt has a simple design, a straight skirt with overlapping front panels that move when you walk.  The side seams will be eliminated and the lining quilted to the main fabric - lots of techniques to learn.

I would always recommend making a toille when making this type of garment - if the fit is sorted out first then you can just concentrate on the construction.  Bringing your toille to the first workshop day would save time - For this workshop a straight skirt pattern with a waistband would be perfect, (I have used Butterick 5466) if you would like any advice about this please do contact me.

What You Need To Bring : The Sewing Room is fully equipped with Janome Sewing Machines and Overlockers as well as all the tools you need to complete your project. You are very welcome to bring your own machine and sewing box if you wish.

Materials Needed : Your skirt pattern, calico toile, fabric & lining (twice the length of your skirt plus 25cm) and matching thread.  If you would like any advice please do contact me.
