Couture Jacket - 3rd, 17th, 31st October, 7th November 2018

Couture sewing takes time and patience.  Much of the construction is done by hand often because the fabrics are tricky and there could be complicated design details. Since spending time with Claire Shaeffer, who is an internationally respected author, lecuturer and columnist and has a collection of over 2000 couture garments many of which are Chanel,  I have been inspired to do more couture sewing and share some of these skills.

If you can sew, you can sew Couture

Over four 1 day workshops you will learn some of the secrets of couture many of which are used in the classic cardigan jacket.  From cutting out, tacking and hand stitching.  Buttons and buttonholes as well well as what needles and threads to use.  We also look at how to make trims similar to those used on couture jackets.  I will provide notes and we will make samples of some of the techniques.

As much of the preparation and construction will be done by hand some of the work will be done in the sewing room and some will need to be done at home.  You will need to bring along your chosen pattern, main fabric and lining.  I will provide any interfacings and extra materials needed.  I will also provide you with some basic tools.

I would always recommend making a toille when making this type of garment - if the fit is sorted out first then you can just concentrate on the construction.  Bringing your toille to the first workshop day would save time - if you would like any advice about this please do contact me.

What You Need To Bring : The Sewing Room is fully equipped with Janome Sewing Machines and Overlockers as well as all the tools you need to complete your project. You are very welcome to bring your own machine and sewing box if you wish.

Materials Needed : Your jacket pattern, calico toile, fabric, lining and matching thread.  If you would like any advice please do contact me.
